Alongside Mayor Vincent Gray, a crowd that stretched for about two blocks marched down Constitution Avenue toward the Washington Monument, where speakers called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition. Some of the demonstrators held signs that read “We Are Sandy Hook.”
“A lot of people don’t know that in many locations in the commonwealth, you can take this gun, you can walk in the middle of Main Street loaded and not be in violation of the law,” Morrissey said, according to the Examiner. “Even though the law right now says you can’t bring this gun into a high school or elementary or middle school, there is nothing from keeping you from walking in front of [an elementary school with a gun].”

The White House told gun-control advocates Tuesday that President Barack Obama’s wide-ranging gun control proposals will include a new federal gun trafficking law — long sought by big-city mayors as a way to keep out-of-state guns off their streets. The proposal, which has not been discussed in detail by the White House up until now, will be unveiled Wednesday, along with Obama’s call for universal background checks for all new gun purchases, as well as new bans on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, according to a person who was in the room for the presentation to gun control advocates.
Bruce Reed, chief of staff to guns task force leader Vice President Joe Biden, told a meeting that the proposals to be unveiled at a White House event Wednesday morning will come with three prongs: legislation to reduce gun availability and executive actions to address education and mental health. Among the areas those executive actions would address are anti-bullying measures and additional training for school counselors and mental health professionals.
The White House is expecting legislation to be introduced by members of Congress as early as next week.
Denny Peyman, Kentucky Sheriff, Feels ‘Moral Obligation’ Not To Enforce Gun Control Laws
Denny Peyman, sheriff of Jackson County, Ky., said Saturday he has no plans to enforce any new gun control laws that may arise following the December massacre in Newtown, Conn.
“I consider this a moral obligation,” he told the Lexington Herald-Leader, expressing his opposition to recent moves by President Barack Obama’s administration toward the broader goal of reducing gun violence. “My office will not comply with any federal actions which violate the United States Constitution or the Kentucky Constitution which I swore to uphold.”
What is wrong with these people? I don’t understand a law enforcer saying he will not enforce stricter gun regulations but has no problem enforcing public prayer and denying a women’s right to choose. It would seem that conservatives would ignore the 1st amendment and give their life defending the 2nd. I wish we could deport these ignorant sorry examples of humans.
I love political cartoons. Some times they can be over the top but they always make a stronger point that words sometimes can’t portray.

“We must declare that there are no shades of gray in American freedom. It’s black and white, all or nothing,” Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said at an NRA annual meeting in 2002, a message that the organization has reiterated at almost every opportunity since.
“You’re with us or against us.”
Extremist of any position are extremely dangerous. There is grey in American freedom. One of the reasons the constitution has remained relevant over the years is because the founding fathers left room for interpretation.
The 2nd Amendment alone just states that we have a right to bear arms. It doesn’t say what kind of arms or how many weapons we can own. It is purposely written to be left up to interpretation. 200 years ago no one should have been able to imagine the the advances in weapons.
Weapons designed solely for the porpoise of killing as many people as possible should not be in the hands of civilians. These weapons were made for war.
“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” LaPierre predicted that he’d be beaten up in the news media: “I can imagine the headlines, the shocking headlines you’ll print tomorrow. ‘More guns,’ you’ll claim, ‘are the NRA’s answer to everything.’ Your implication will be that guns are evil and have no place in society, much less in our schools.”
“CRAZIEST MAN ON EARTH” blared the front-page headline of the next morning’s New York Daily News.
“GUN NUT!” proclaimed the New York Post.
Bloomberg wants to change the GOP
NEW YORK — Michael Bloomberg, America’s most prominent and deep-pocketed advocate for gun control, would rather rehabilitate Republicans than oust them.
“Oh sure,” Bloomberg said, he would blame Republicans if they blocked new gun-control legislation in the House. “But having said that, I won’t let the Democrats off the hook.” He added that when Democrats “were in power, they didn’t do it,” and President Obama “campaigned on an assault-weapons ban and he didn’t do it, so spare me.”
I hope Bloomberg keeps up the pressure. He has a very powerful voice and I believe powerful people look to him to see which way he will lean.
“In recent weeks, we have heard some people say that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” Bloomberg said, echoing NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. “But the truth is that sometimes the good guys get shot and sometimes they even get killed. . . .Washington is letting the bad guys shoot our police officers, our children, our neighbors. That has to stop right now. And there are immediate steps our legislators can take right now.”
